Diving in Bali: Mantas, Mola, and Magical Moments in Nusa Penida

Diving into Paradise: Our Unforgettable Bali Adventure
Bali. The name itself conjures images of lush rice paddies, serene temples, and vibrant culture. But for us, it whispered promises of something more: an underwater world teeming with life, mystery, and incredible encounters. Our recent 3-day adventure, two of which were spent beneath the waves with the absolutely stellar team at Nico Dives Cool, delivered on every single promise – and then some!
From the moment we started planning, Nico Dives Cool stood out. Their reputation for professionalism, safety, and an undeniably friendly vibe made them our top choice, and they exceeded all expectations. If you’re dreaming of diving Bali, look no further.
Day 1: Kicking Off the Adventure & the Thrill of Nusa Penida
Our first day of diving took us to the legendary waters around Nusa Penida – a diver’s paradise known for its strong currents and breathtaking marine life. We plunged into crystal-clear waters, greeted by vibrant coral gardens and schools of colourful reef fish dancing around us. The adrenaline of navigating the currents, expertly guided by our divemasters, only added to the thrill. Every turn revealed something new, from turtles to intricate nudibranchs. We ended the day buzzing with stories, eagerly anticipating what Day 2 would bring.
Day 2: Mola Mola Magic & Dancing with Mantas!
We woke up with high hopes, but honestly, nothing could have prepared us for the magic of Day 2. On our second day, as if conjured by a dream, we encountered the elusive and magnificent Mola Mola – the Oceanic Sunfish! These incredible, enormous creatures are notoriously shy and a true bucket-list sighting for any diver. To see one in its natural habitat, slowly moving through the deep blue, was an experience that felt almost spiritual. Our dive guide Nico spotted it with an eagle eye, ensuring everyone had a chance to witness this rare phenomenon. The sheer size and unique appearance of the Mola Mola left us speechless. It was an absolute privilege.
Day 3 and a taste of Lembongan & Local Wonders
After all that underwater excitement, we stayed on the surface. The morning we spent snorkeling with mantas and had a relaxing and beautiful drift snorkel-looking at turtles and vibrant coral as we cruised on the surface. We had a yummy lunch on Nusa Lembongan, a charming island adjacent to Nusa Penida.
But the day wasn’t over! We took some time to explore the island, getting a glimpse into local life. We visited the fascinating seaweed farming areas, understanding a traditional livelihood of the islanders. Then, it was off to Devil’s Tears, a dramatic coastal blowhole where waves crash against the cliffs with incredible force, creating spectacular sprays. It was a powerful reminder of nature’s raw beauty, a perfect contrast to the calm serenity we had found underwater.
The Magic of Bali, Above and Below the Waves
Our three days in Bali, with two incredible days of diving and exploration, were truly unforgettable. The professional guidance we received, combined with the island’s natural wonders, made for a perfect adventure. We had a beautiful, inspiring and wonderful bunch of divers on the trip and it was such a pleasure to dive and snorkel with and spend our Bali days with.
If you’re dreaming of discovering the underwater wonders of Bali, experiencing the thrill of Mola Mola and manta encounters, and exploring the charm of its islands, you’re in for an experience that will last a lifetime.
